Social Security Debit Card

Posted on March 02, 2008 by Nick

Another great idea have come along to save social security receiver and people age 65 and over a headaches and fees. Introducing the Social Security Debit Card. So far, I head it’s supposed to make life easier and more efficient for people to use than the good-old social security checks. The debit card can be used just like a regular bank debit card with a Visa or Mastercard logo on it.

According to Reuters, “The U.S. Treasury Department is set to offer a prepaid debit card for Social Security recipients, and has chosen Dallas-based Comerica Bank as the card issuer, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. Comerica Bank is a subsidiary of Comerica Inc.”

The report said the card is targeted at Social Security and Supplemental Security Income recipients who don’t have bank accounts, and is also aimed at providing cheaper and more secure payments by shifting away from paper checks.
