Bank of America "Keep the Change" Deal
Bank of America claims to save members more by enrolling in their new "Keep The Change" program. According to the official Bank of America website, "Keep The Change" works when an account holder enrolls and use their Bank of America Check Card to buy things. They’ll round up all purchase to the nearest dollar amount and transfer the difference from your checking account to your savings account. It's not free money and it may cause a great disadvantage for you whenever money's tight.
Say you buy a cup of coffee that cost $0.75 with your Bank of America debit check card. That means the remaining $0.25 will be taken out of your checking account and put into your savings. On the other hand, if you had written $19.25 check and it's pending, you just cost yourself a bank overdraft fee of $35.00 or $20.00 with overdraft protection. This is one of the many ways Bank of American keep their shareholders happy.
Take it from me, I experienced and overdraft fee this week because of this unnecessary savings programs that doesn't work to put any money in my pocket.
